I’ve been thinking to touch upon the topic of wardrobe appropriation for quite some time now. Now, we all know that cultural appropriation topic is quite a disputable one and usually not the most exciting one. Whereas, when we talk about wardrobe appropriation it definitely is seen in more brighter light.
And all this is thanks to Alessandro Michele, who introduced us to such a style direction by means of his Gucci creations. Now what wardrobe appropriation means? It’s the fact of taking some pieces from grandfather’s, grandmother’s, mother’s, etc. early stage wardrobes and applying it to one’s modern wardrobe and style.
For example, I found this YSL leather jacket in men’s section of one of my favourite vintage stores. And I could totally see such a jacket actually coming from my grandfather’s wardrobe. That’s why I actually called this story ‘Grandpa’s Wardrobe Appropriation’.
Speaking of the whole outfit, I really like how old school it actually turned to be. Due to the jacket, the jeans, the bag and so on. It’s so simple, on one hand, and so retro-ish cool, on the other hand. I totally see myself wearing such a combination on everyday basis.
